omg this is so surreal! i remember finding you about 6 or 7 years ago back when you were still at chungang university! i asked a ton of questions about korean universities and you were so kind answering me back :) i eventually did end up studying at a korean language program for 1 year (and then returned to america partially because of covid and partially due to other reasons) i totally agree about what you were saying about language programs teaching to topik because after 1 whole year, i was always just so stressed out about knowing all the grammar and vocab that my speaking suffered so much i definitely went through the same thing like i was lacking soooo much confidence (plus i'm an introvert with social anxiety and i was literally always the only english speaker in my classes so i had trouble making friends) that even though i was level 5 in korean, i spoke like i was still level 2 honestly the biggest factor in me returning to the states after originally wanting to get a bachelors degree in korea was how the education system was structured, but i also really just had no confidence in myself back then lol

I have a friend who worked @ a Hogan but had to do a midnight run eventually. The director of the school sexually harassed several employees multiple times and the director was told and did not care. The other thing that was so hard for my friend was that foreign teachers had more breaks than her SK collogues. She was touched on many parts of her body by many male members of the staff constantly. She had no where to turn, had signed a contract and fell into a deep depression due to how she was treated by the staff and many parents who were very difficult at times. A father of one of her students pushed her back into her chair. After this...she did a midnight run. She is home now and safe but she is in therapy 2x a week. She is/was a certified teacher in the US before she went to this place. She knows how to teach. She also has never been depressed until this experience so....wow...don't do it😡

Congrats on passing topik 1 level 2! I have just passed Topik IBT 1 level 2 and it was yesterday. Now I know what you feel i also felt negative that my score will not be enough. I just got surprised that my sister is the one who checked my score and told me that i have passed. She even bought me a laptop a few months ago so i can focus well on korean. I was so scared at that time that if I fail i don't deserve that laptop and i might lose my will to retake the test again. You are an inspiration to others and congrats again.

Language learning can come with its challenges. One of the ways I was able to overcome them was by downloading Immersive Translate. It’s a browser extension that supports over 100+ languages, with many other useful features as well. I use it to watch my shows and movies on Netflix every day, and that has really helped me become immersed in my target language, which is Vietnamese.
